Harkin Roofing is a family run business and as far as the Harkin’s are concerned our roofers are part of the family as well.
Because of this Health and Safety is at the forefront of everything we do because it is important to us that our family is safe.
EDGE PROTECTION
Our company policy is that for all roof installations where possible edge protection should be in place to ensure the safety of our roofers. We own the Intaks edge protection system and have a dedicated installation team.
TRAINING
All of our staff are provided extensive on the job training. Additionally they are put through the following formal training courses.
Vertical Horizons Fall Arrest System
This 2 day course provides both theoretical and practical training on fall arrest systems on building and construction sites.
NZQA Unit Standards
15757 – Employ fall arrest systems on building and construction sites
23229 – Use a safety harness for personal fall prevention when working at height.
Site Safe Building Construction Passport
A health and safety awareness training for the building construction industry.
First Aid Certificate
Our foreman and leading hands are put on a one day course to teach them how to assess and manage casualties and provide basic life support in emergency situations.

6400 – Manage first aid in emergency situations
6401 – Provide first aid
6402 – Provide resuscitation level 2
Elevated Work Platform
Our foreman and leading hands are certified for driving scissor lifts and self-propelled boom lifts.

23960 – Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a scissor lift elevating work platform
23962 – Assess the worksite, prepare and operate a self-propelled boom lift EWP
