Harkin Roofing was formed in 1979 by Rex Harkin
He was a one man band who had an office at home. At the time Rex’s wife Sue was working as a teacher.
Rex and Sue quickly realised that Rex had a winning combination and Sue decided that she wanted to get involved and create a successful roofing company that they could both be proud of. Through hard work and persistence Rex and Sue built up a successful commercial roofing company.
In 1994 Sue Harkin also helped to form the Roofing Association of New Zealand (RANZ). RANZ is the national trade organisation and representative collective voice for the roofing industry.
In 2015 Rex and Sue’s children, Brad and Deborah, took over management of Harkin Roofing.
OUR TEAM
Brad Harkin – Director
Brad has been roofing since he was a teenager. Brad has a great memory and clients are constantly surprised when they speak of a roof that Harkin Roofing might have done 10 years ago and Brad quickly produces a couple of facts about it. Brad has a very supportive wife who manages to stay interested even when Brad is still talking roofing at 10pm. Brad has three children who he loves teaching roofing to and he hopes that one of them might catch his roofing bug. Brad is the first port of call for any large construction projects that Harkin Roofing is undertaking.
Deborah Harkin – Director
Deborah and Brad had always known since they were children that they wanted to run Harkin Roofing together. In 2015 Deborah and Brad took over management of Harkin Roofing and ever since they are always looking at ways to grow and improve the company. Deborah oversees the Health and Safety for the company. She also provides Brad project management support on larger projects to ensure that our clients get the best service possible from us. Deborah has a great partner who is always teasing her when she is checking out roofs when we are in a new city. She has two children and so far, her oldest Sophie is always asking if she can go to Harkin Roofing to see the forklift so there is hope that there is another generation to run Harkin Roofing.
Ben Moir – Project Manager
Ben Moir started with us in 2011 as a foreman. He has over 20 years’ roofing experience. Ben moved into the office in 2019 as our project manager.
Michelle O’Neill – Quantity Surveyor
Michelle started at Harkin Roofing in 2014 while she was studying to be a Quantity Surveyor. After graduating Michelle joined our team on a permanent basis. Michelle has a keen eye for detail and enjoys all the challenges of working in our fast paced commercial roofing industry. She is a mum of two and has a fantastic husband that she somehow manages to keep in line.
Heather Milner – Office Manager
Heather started on a 6 week contract in April 1996 and obviously forgot to leave. Luckily for us Heather’s job does not require her going on any roofs as she is scared of heights. Heather runs our office and manages the financial side of Harkin Roofing.
Lacey Harkin- Health and Safety
Lacey is Married to Brad and Joined the Company in 2022. Her role is Health and Safety and has gained certificates in Health and Safety, and Quality Assurance in Construction and Site-Specific Safety Planning. Lacey wants to continue to grow in her role and is looking forward to further studies within the field.
Brenda Hogan – Office Executive
Brenda joined Harkin Roofing in October 2018 in a full time role assisting Heather and our team.
